What is Experience-Based Learning?

Experience-Based, or Experiential, Learning is an essential part of education at all levels. It draws on John Dewey's groundwork on learning theories focused on "learning by doing."

Experience-Based Learning, as the term implies, utilizes experiences to teach students skills that will serve them in professional environments. Internships, practicums, field experiences, professional field placements, clinical residencies, and cooperative learning all provide opportunities to bridge theory and practice while preparing students for successful transition into the world of work.
