On November 5, 2009, the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce hosted its Annual Workforce Summit, a yearly event designed to help business owners discover how to maximize the productivity of your employees and build a smarter, stronger workforce for Tampa Bay.
This year's event was highlighted by a keynote address from Karen Elzey, vice president & executive director of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's Institute for a Competitive Workforce. Her speech was entitled "Workforce & Workplace Have Changed: Let the Adapting & Innovating Begin." She reminded us that Workplace demographics are changing.
- Today’s workforce embraces an attitude toward workplace values that is different from the past.
- A maturing baby-boomer population has brought with it the unique challenges of an aging workforce.
- America’s workforce continues to diversify as the number of women, minorities and foreign-born immigrants grows in the U.S.
The annual event also allowed participants to engage in three roundtable discussions:
- The Business Case for Hiring Veterans and Persons with Disabilities
Pat Wear, Senior Vice President, Wilson Resources, Inc. and the Tampa Bay Business Leadership Network Armando Sanchez-Aballi, Business/Community Connections Director, Enable America
- ChangeMap – Leading and Navigating Change in the Workplace
Eric Larmer, Vice President and Leadership Consultant,Lee Hecht Harrison
- How Can I Use the Education Community to Engage My Workforce?
Dr. Bob Forsythe, Dean, University of South Florida-College of Business
