 Since the 1940s, the Tampa community, led by the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce, has enjoyed a close working relationship with MacDill Air Force Base - a vital part of our nation’s defense and an important training location for those who safeguard America. We understand the importance of promoting and supporting our brave men and women who freely serve our country and call our community home.

Military Affairs Council
The Chamber’s Military Affairs Council is one of its largest and most active committees, with every command at MacDill and every branch of service in the area is represented. The mission of the group is to foster the relationship between the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce and the men and women that serve at MacDill Air Force Base and the military in general.
Council members attend regular meetings throughout the year and also assist in the recruitment of sponsors and speakers for various military affairs events. Members are also encouraged to show their support of our local armed forces by attending the many events.

MacDill Air Force Base
Since its establishment in 1941, MacDill Air Force Base (AFB) has been a vital part of America's defense and an important location for training those that keep America safe. It is currently the home base of U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM), U.S. Special Operations Command (SOCOM), the Joint Communications Support Element (JCSE), the 6th Air Mobility Wing and over 40 other tenant units.
Only minutes from Downtown Tampa , MacDill AFB and the local business community have shared a symbiotic relationship that spans decades. This relationship results in a $6.7-billion economic impact on the Tampa Bay area that ultimately contributes to the community's support of the base.
As important as MacDill AFB is to our nation's security, it is also an intrinsic part of the Tampa Bay community. Located on the southern peninsular tip of Tampa, military personnel and their families stationed at MacDill enjoy easy access to affordable housing, excellent public schools, recreational areas, two major universities, several sporting complexes, cultural venues, and an overall quality-of-life that is essential to recruiting and retention. More than 130,000 veterans have made the Tampa Bay area their home including over 150 retired general officers.
