CONTINUING EDUCATION

The University of South Florida (USF) Educational Outreach - Continuing Education provides programs for professional development and personal enrichment, serving over 15,000 participants annually. Programs are offered at several USF campuses and through work sites arranged by employers.

USF's Professional and Workforce Development (PWD) programs help working adults improve skills as they earn noncredit educational certificates, prepare for professional certification examinations, qualify for promotion, meet continuing education requirements and reach other goals.

The dozens of PWD courses include management and leadership, foreign languages, test preparation, finance and many others. Computer courses range from the introductory to advanced levels of office, web and graphics-related application skills training, AutoCAD and database administration.

USF's Office of Graduate Certificates offers more than 60 courses. Classes are held evenings, weekends and online, and some certificates can be earned with just three courses. Usually no standardized test is required for admission, and some certificate-seeking credit hours may be transferred to graduate work.

The University of Tampa's Evening College is for working adults in part-time pursuit of a bachelor's degree. Students may enroll in up to eight credit hours per term in 12 areas of study including accounting, computer information systems, criminology, finance, marketing, social sciences and interdisciplinary studies.

Hillsborough Community College offers advanced technical certificate programs for people with existing degrees, while college credit certificates are offered for those seeking new or upgraded skills. Applied technology diplomas are awarded at the college credit or vocational credit level depending on the program, while the postsecondary adult vocational certificate program is a non-college credit job preparatory program.

HCC offers many short courses, seminars and academic activities toward licensure or re-certification in fields such as insurance and real estate. Other special interest and leisure classes are offered; some award continuing education units (CEUs), the nationally recognized standard of measurement earned for participation in qualified programs.

Within the School District of Hillsborough County, the Adult & Community Education Program serves over 35,000 adult students each year. Among offerings are adult basic education, general educational development, vocational preparation and workplace readiness instruction.
