Keynote speaker General Norton A. Schwartz, Chief of Staff, U.S. Air Force, and Mayor Pam Iorio participated in the presentation of awards to 22 civilian and military recipients. The event represented the 12th year the Chamber has recognized our local military personnel for both outstanding professional service and contributions to the greater good of the Tampa Bay community. 2009 U.S. Armed Forces Senior Enlisted Reception Members of the Tampa Bay business community took an opportunity to personally thank our local service men and women at the 2009 U.S. Armed Forces Senior Enlisted Reception. Organized by the Chamber's Military Affairs Council, the event was held at the Bayshore Club on MacDill AFB in September.
Senior enlisted members of all five branches mixed and mingled with civilian guests from all the sponsor companies. Thanks to the hard work of the Military Affairs Council, more than $22,000 in prizes were raffled off to the service men and women throughout the reception. The grand prize included two tickets on Southwest Airlines.
2009 Flag Officers’ and Key Commanders’ Reception In October, the Chamber’s Military Affairs Council hosted the 2009 Flag Officers’ and Key Commanders’ Reception. At this event, the Chamber honored the senior officers of U.S. Central Command, U.S. Special Operations Command, the 6th Air Mobility Wing, the 927th Air Refueling Wing, Joint Communications Support Element and the U.S. Coast Guard here in Tampa Bay.

2009 Operation Partnership Operation Partnership is designed to strengthen the ties between Tampa’s military and civilian communities by engaging local business executives and active military members. This half-day program on base includes lunch, a facilities tour and an opportunity to learn firsthand about the ongoing activities of MacDill Air Force Base.
2009 Veterans Day Ceremony On November 10, the Chamber also hosted the 2009 Veterans Day Ceremony and Concert at the Joe Chillura Courthouse Square
Under the banners of more than 10 area color guards and honor guards, the Sam Rampello Downtown Partnership School chorus and band performed our national anthem and other musical selections. A history of Veterans Day and a reflection on the meaning of the holiday were shared by Lt. General Frank Kearney, Deputy Commander, United States Special Operations.
