Every college student knows that success after college takes more than just a high GPA. Finding that perfect job requires demonstrated leadership plus community connections. Collegiate Leadership Tampa Bay provides students with an opportunity to engage with diverse, yet like-minded, student leaders from other area colleges and build additional credentials beyond their classroom and campus experiences.

The program recognizes students who have demonstrated leadership within their campus community, as well as academic success. As these students near degree completion, Collegiate Leadership Tampa Bay helps introduce them to the many ways leadership takes shape outside the academic world. This program will teach them as much about the community as it will about themselves and will empower them to continue their leadership journeys.

Collegiate Leadership Tampa Bay is an exciting opportunity for approximately 24 college students. Modeled after the Leadership Tampa Program for business and community leaders, the Collegiate Leadership Tampa Bay Program inspires, educates, and engages a diverse group of emerging leaders as they transition from college to career.

Collegiate Leadership Tampa Bay is a tuition-based, academic-year-long program (October - April) that prepares a diverse group of student leaders to have a positive impact on their future communities while they learn extensively about what makes Tampa Bay a favored place to live and work. Through experiential learning, students explore careers in the nonprofit, private, public, and philanthropic sectors, while developing leadership competencies for the 21st century. The program provides students with the knowledge, skills, and networks necessary to develop their professional lives and build a future as engaged Tampa Bay citizens through interactive and collaborative activities.

Program days will occur once a month on Fridays. During program days, participants will learn about various aspects of our community. Topics will be updated yearly annually to reflect issues of importance at that time. During the program, participants take part in an opening retreat session, six program days and a closing session graduation dinner.

Nomination Process & Criteria

Students are nominated by campus faculty and staff and must:

  • have a minimum of 60 credit hours while attending the program and enrolled at Saint Leo University, The University of Tampa, or the University of South Florida
  • maintain fulltime enrollment during the program
  • be within 2 years of graduation
  • be pursuing a bachelor’s degree
  • be in good standing at their university
  • have demonstrated university and/or community leadership

Each university may recommend 10 to 15 candidates. After completing the university’s internal selection process, each university will send their recommendations to the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce (GTCC) no later than December 2, 2019.

The Collegiate Leadership Tampa Bay Program is an experiential program. Applicants must commit to full attendance at every session day, consisting of eight Friday sessions from 8:00am – 5:00pm at various locations.

All program days will run from 8:00am – 5:00 pm. All days will begin at the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce (GTCC). The GTCC will handle all transportation during the program day. However, students will be responsible for their own arrival at the GTCC to begin the day. Lunch will be provided by the GTCC.

Attendance at the Opening and Closing Sessions are mandatory. Attendance at all Program Days is expected. Those who miss more than one (1) program day will be dropped without a refund of tuition and university coordinators will be notified. Typical program days run from 8:00am – 5:00 pm. Missing any portion of a program day is considered a full day absence. All absences require notification prior to the program date.


Collegiate Leadership Tampa Bay graduates can expect to:

  • Identify and build their leadership style, strengths, and competencies

  • Access peer support, professional networks and circles of influence necessary to build their civic and professional lives in Tampa Bay

  • Gain a greater understanding of community opportunities through interaction and collaboration with peers, leaders and decision makers from all segments of the community
